End of term party unveiled

End of term parties are an institution in Loughborough. In times gone by the party would typically roll into town aboard the Vengabus, but about 3 years ago we changed all that by introducing LSU to the sights and sounds of Zinc, Jack Beats, Ramadanman, Jakwob, Plastician, dBridge & Instra:mental all in the space of six hours, and we have never looked back.

On Thursday 20th June we return to LSU with the intention of ending what has been an unbelievable year of parties on an incredible high. To help us achieve this we have covered all bases and invited our favourite artists from across the spectrum of dance music, including Danny Byrd, Huxley, Waze & Odyssey and Gorgon City.

For more information on the event check out the Facebook Page, and to grab your £8 earlybird ticket check out our Fatsoma page, where you can also grab tickets for our upcoming Secret party with Breach (19th May) and our Thames Boat Party (26th May).

Unknown festival beefs up

Everyone knows that festivals and rain go hand in hand, but it also results in a pretty shit time and a decent chance that the festival won't even be on. Step forward Jet2, the sunshine, the beautiful Adriatic coastline and a line up that goes one further any of it's current contemporaries.

Unknown festival has absolutely hit the spot this year in terms of artists representing the full spectrum of live performances and record selectahs , but what else would you expect from the people that bring you Hideout, The Warehouse Project & Field Day?!

As if their first announcement of Actress/Henrik Schwarz/Moderat and more doing their live thing with Ame/Koze/Jackmaster/Julio Bashmore and a WHOLE load more DJ's performing wasn't enough to convince you to fish out the passport and scrape together the very reasonable £109 for a ticket, then today's announcement will surely tip you hard-to-pleasers over the edge...

The Horrors,East India Youth, Richie Hawtin, Tiga, Tale of Us and a whole lot more have been added to the bill, with more to come as the weeks count down till September 10th. To check out the full line up and grab your tickets.. CHECK OUT THE OFFICIAL SITE

Lufbra Soundclash reaches climax

If you have had your head buried in the sand for the last few months, take it out. The first thing to do after you've taken it out is go and google 'Lufbra Soundclash' to see exactly what you have been missing. An idea packed with originality and creativity in equal measures, driven by some of the most passionate music & art lovers you will ever meet, has resulted in one of the freshest series of events since, well, late 2008...

Inspired by Red Bull's Culture Clash in November, Lufbra Soundclash hosted a series of 'Hijack' events earlier this year each focusing on a particular style and culture within the UK music scene. The 'Hijack' parties brought to the fore the most talented DJ's and artists from the region, with two from each hand picked to represent their scene at the grande finale on Thursday 2nd May.

With backing from Red Bull and ourselves, the main event takes place at Loughborough Student's Union on Thursday 2nd May, and will provide a platform for up and coming performers to rub shoulders with some VERY special guests indeed...

Tickets are an absolute steal at £5, grab yours from the link below:

Breach to provide the fun in the sun

With the sun about to peek it's sorely missed face above the Leicestershire skies this weekend, we have got  a little bit ahead of ourselves and released our plans to take full advantage of whatever the mid-May weather throws at us.

Admittedly it was torture keeping it quiet for the few days since it's been confirmed, but better out than in we say... BREACH aka BEN WESTBEECH aka ALL ROUND TOP GUY AND PRODUCER will be joining us on Sunday May 19th where we will be partying all day (and night) in a secret outdoor/indoor location within our beloved LE11 boundaries.

If you know Loughborough as well as we do, which you do, you will know that space for an outdoor party is at a premium, which is why we have to restrict capacity to 350 people. Armed with this knowledge, we suggest you do the right thing and grab your ticket early avoiding disappointment. We HATE disappointment. You can grab your tickets from the Fatsoma link below:

After watching that, there is no way you will be wanting to miss the next one with Digital Soundboy crew, Ben Pearce & Midland this Thursday, so get involved and grab your ticket whilst they are still around: http://dbe.fatsoma.com/events/81741/

Rory Lyons added to Skreamizm line up

We at dbe are extremely excited to announce the addition of Rory Lyon's to our 11th October Skreamizm event!

No stranger to the international party scene; Rory Lyons has been tearing up dancefloors for years with the much acclaimed duo Cassette Jam. The guys became renowned for smashing the back doors out of Chibuku, Wax On, Metropolis and The Warehouse Project amongst other clubland institutions in the UK and then continuing to repeat the success abroad, holding down residencies at Amneisa, Space Ibiza & Ibiza Rocks.

However, recent remixes for Dim Mak Records, Doorly & Kissy Sell Out have laid the foundations for glittering solo career, and Rory Lyons is just getting started! Set to drop this Autumn, Rory will release his biggest track to date - a remake of the classic Luniz hip hop jam ‘5 on it', which has already received support on Capital FM and Radio 1, in addition to DJ shows including XOYO with Herve and DJ EZ.

Having witnessed first hand Rory tearing apart dancefloors as both Cassette Jam and as a solo artist, we can't wait to introduce him to the dbe family on the 11th October and trust us when we say this guy NEVER fails to bring the party!

To whet your appetite for the big occasion, check out Rory's Fenchurch mix and prepare to be fully blown away by an eclectic mix of just about everything, all underlined with a heavy dose of bass. This guy is one helluva DJ, but don't take our word for it, get yourself down next Thursday and believe the hype!

A Swift Half with Yobema

It was a cold winter's night back in December 2008. A mysterious low frequency sub rattled from afar. 100 Loughborough music lovers from all walks of life started to congregate upon a seemingly innocent local public house. Venturing round the rear entrance a solitary figure sits by a desk with a piece of paper containing the names of the first guests ever to experience a 100% dubstep and garage night in humble surroundings. Asking only for a pound with a welcoming Northern grin he is the man that helped begin what was to grow into the Midland's finest bass music night.

The man in question is of course Sean Hulse aka Yobema. Many people's first meeting with the Leeds lothario would have been either on the door of most of the early dub-boro's and dbe's, cheerily hand-stamping and coaxing in passers by with the promise of fine music and good company. Most know though that he is one of the men responsible behind the progression of the night from it's dubstep roots to a more well-rounded format. Yobema's personal love of house music tinged in drama and passionate feeling helped shape dbe in it's new look, with his advisory capacities coming into good use particularly for the more leftfield booking choices.

As Yobema moved away from Loughborough and up to Leeds to pursue the cities thriving nightlife and culture, as well as stocking up on vinyl, his taste and love for the more 4/4 side of electronic music blossomed. The Yorkshire Beat Manipulator was born. But it wasn't long until he returned to a dbe in full flow, playing vinyl only sets which fused together the ethics of deep house together with the upfront excitement of the bass music which dbe is renowned for. As a DJ Yobema's selections are always of the upmost quality and his mixing has become more and more precise as his musical brain expands.

Yobema's Swift Half mix maintains this philosophy and paints a current portrait of a man intent on making the dancefloor move subtly as one. Never intent on overbearing people, the mix moves from Classic house territory with Alex-Ander to the deep tribalistic style of Spencer Parker's haunted organ sampling 'Riding on The Rhythm'. Following is a massive one-two punch of Classic shuffling house with Johnwaynes blending perfectly with Liam Geddes fantastic 'About To Freak This'. Ending with modern classics from Dusky, Todd Terje and Ejeca shows that Yobema isn't afraid to go big, mixing subtly yet seamlessly with the style that seems steeped in decades of house tradition. Another resident we are proud to have as our own and one which, like the others, has their own style, their own groove and their own ways of making you move.

A Swift Half with SK

The room was bouncing and A-Trak was mixing standing on a table, the lasers only briefly illuminating the dancefloor before plunging the crowd back into darkness. The silhouette of a figure donning a fresh new-era cap stood before us. What did this stranger want? Does he prefer partying next to Catalan Monasteries or on top of a double-decker bus? Or both? What happens when you mix vodka with Dandelion & Burdock? All these questions didn't fly through our head on the evening we first crossed paths with SK, but fortunately they were answered in the coming years.

A chance meeting in a nightclub between ourselves and SK (known to the taxman as Mr. Simon Kemp) was basically how this affair started, and 4 years on SK has been by our side every step of the way. One of the original believers in the Dub-Boro project, over the years Simon has been our graphic designer, head cheerleader AND even our very own personal Shazam, but all this was just a distraction on the way to becoming one of dbe's finest resident selectas. What this guy doesn't know about music ain't worth knowing, and this knowledge flows out onto the dancefloor like a sea of velvet rhythms when he is behind the decks.

We had SK tipped for greatness for a while, until one hazy summers evening a pedalo was spotted sailing up the River Soar, blaring out 80's disco beats without a care in the world nor an entertainments license. Sleazy Wonder was back. SK was seduced by his cousins stories of Caribbean ports and high sea battles to protect the cargo of dark rum. SK was so envious of his stories, he left with Sleazy the next day, armed only with a pair of questionable sunglasses and the latest future garage beats. On their return from the high seas there was no SK, only Sleazy in a jazzy shirt and some large Cuban cigars. We decided not to question this and gave Sleazy his own room, to keep the mirrorball spinning and the people grooving.

Alas Sleazy could no longer handle the cold winters and set sail from 'The Basin' last month, but as a parting gift he left keys and a map as to where we could find SK, who had been locked in a the basement below the mansion on Ashby Road for months on end, playing one long after party to no-one but himself. We unlocked the door to the sound of Hyph Mngo, dragged him upstairs, gave him £50 worth of Boomkat vouchers and told him to get ready for 11th October. This is where he is at so far...

A Swift Half with Dave Woods

As the hype builds up towards welcoming the legend Skream back to LE11 alongside Disclosure on 11th October, we put the spotlight on some of the guys wholly responsible for the ebb & flow of our night. Whether its warming up the crowd for our special guests or supplying the grooves in the second room to offer that little something different, our residents do a fantastic job every party and over the next week we find out what makes these guys tick. Consider this a virtual 30 minutes down the local, with them supplying the tunes on the jukebox, a possibly sketchy back story and a discussion on what their favourite tunes of the moment are = A Swift Half with...

It's never by fluke that someone wins a DBE DJ competition, proven by case in hand Dave Woods. After fending off some tough competition in 2011 to win a set opening up the main room for Beardyman, he didn't waste any time in settling into the big room atmosphere and kick starting what was a massive party.

Then, like a true rock 'n' rolla, he went AWOL for a year, with plenty of rumours as to his whereabouts and general concerns for his safety outside the confines of LE11. Some tell the tale of a young man trapped in an underground lair of Hard Wax in Berlin, living off a drip feed of the latest bass heavy releases whilst being solely responsible for sorting the recycling before collection on a Wednesday. Others tell of a year in industry but we weren't so interested in actually listening to that story.

Whatever the truth, the man is back and Dave Woods returns to Loughborough with a years worth of anticipation bottled up inside him, ready to assume his rightful place as a DBE resident. To celebrate this return we have a 30 minute insight into the musical mind of Dave Woods, free to download and stick on your music machine of choice. And if you listen hard enough, you can almost hear those broken glass bottles and the tearing up of Modeselektor cardboard cut-outs...

And once you've finished listening, discover something new and have a browse through Dave's Top 10 tunes that made him go crazy this summer:

Welcome back...

Welcome back. And as the sun sets on another ridiculous summer for festivals, parties and general frolicking, WE ARE BACK IN BUSINESS. And boy have we been busy...

First up, tickets have been flying out for our leg of the SKREAMIZM tour with special guests Skream & Disclosure. The night edges closer and closer and there is less than a month until we open the our doors in LE11 once again. Earlybirds have sold out but you can still grab your £10 ticket here...

Secondly, we have been working through the summer to make sure you are never too far away from your next dose of spine-tingling bass vibes. Here at dbe we thought it was about time we stepped up our game once again, so last week we released our plans on Facebook for the next two months. Keep an eye out for a new residency at the wonderfully intimate Sophbeck in Leicester, plans for a third instalment of the Magical Mystery Tour & even our first dbe trip up to Manchester's legendary Warehouse Project.
